Windows for a Cause
Breakthrough T1D Western and Central PA is proud to announce a new initiative launched by Energy Swing Windows, Doors, and Total Basement Finishing.
Energy Swing Windows has been an incredible partner in the fight against type 1 diabetes, and we are thrilled about their innovative ‘Windows for Breakthrough T1D’ initiative. This creative project beautifully combines sustainability, community engagement, and artistic expression to support life-changing research and programs for those impacted by T1D. We are proud to collaborate with Energy Swing Windows and look forward to working together to make this effort a resounding success. Thank you to Steve Rennekamp and Team for being a part of our mission!

Energy Swing’s New Fundraising Program for 2025
For over 14 years, Energy Swing has proudly supported JDRF, now relaunched as Breakthrough T1D, raising more than $140,000 for life-changing research and support programs. Breakthrough T1D has become a core part of our culture, driven by the deeply personal commitment of our owner, Steve Rennekamp. Steve’s wife, Susan, and son, Stephen, both passed away from complications of type 1 diabetes. Having witnessed firsthand the toll T1D takes on families, Steve’s passion fuels our dedication to making a meaningful impact.
In 2025, we’re launching an exciting new fundraiser inspired by Brian Gottlieb’s successful initiative in Wisconsin. Brian transformed discarded window sashes into beautiful works of art, raising over $180,000 for charitable causes in just seven years. We’re borrowing this innovative concept to create our own version, “Windows for Breakthrough T1D.”
At Energy Swing, we replace old windows as part of our business—but instead of discarding them, we’re giving these sashes new life. Local artists will repurpose the old windows, turning them into unique art pieces. Later in the year, these creations will be publicly displayed and auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds supporting Breakthrough T1D’s mission to improve the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes.
This initiative thrives on collaboration. Every part of Energy Swing’s team is involved, from marketing and sales to installation, ensuring we gather sashes for the project. Our customers, who trust us to replace their windows, play an essential role as co-producers in this effort. And of course, the incredible Pittsburgh artists who will contribute their time and talents are pivotal in transforming the sashes into art. Finally, the community will help bring this vision to life by attending events and purchasing these meaningful pieces.
We’re now calling on local artists to join this mission. Their creativity and generosity are the critical missing links to success. Together, we can turn something destined for the trash into a beacon of hope and progress. Let’s create breakthroughs—one window at a time—and open doors to a brighter future for those living with T1D.
Calling all Artists: Breakthroughs with Energy Swing
This simple yet impactful program relies on the creativity and generosity of local artists like you to succeed.
Each year, Energy Swing replaces thousands of old windows, with the sashes typically ending up in a dumpster. In 2025, we’re launching a program to repurpose these old sashes into stunning works of art. Volunteer artists will transform the glass into unique, framed masterpieces that will be displayed, promoted, and auctioned off later in the year. All proceeds will support Breakthrough T1D’s vital mission to improve the lives of those impacted by type 1 diabetes.
As a participating artist, your work and name will be highlighted on our website and during the final exhibition and sale. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talent while contributing to a cause that makes a real difference.

Together, let’s turn old windows into symbols of hope and transformation.
