Donor-advised fund, stock, and cryptocurrency gifts
Three tax-efficient ways to give to Breakthrough T1D.
Donor-advised fund
What is a donor-advised fund?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving vehicle that you can create to manage charitable donations on behalf of yourself and your loved ones. You can set up a DAF account with most financial institutions by contributing cash, securities, or appreciated assets.
Why give via DAF to Breakthrough T1D?
DAFs allow you to support Breakthrough T1D while receiving favorable tax benefits and having the ability to recommend grants from your fund over time. When you give via your DAF, you will be eligible for a current-year tax deduction and can be more strategic about your giving decisions.
More questions about DAFs? See our FAQ at the end of this page.

Cryptocurrency
What is cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency (also called “crypto”), like Bitcoin, is digital money. Like traditional money, it can be used for transactions such as purchases, investments, or donations. Unlike traditional money, no bank or financial institution is needed to make crypto transactions
Why give cryptocurrency directly to Breakthrough T1D?
Because the IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property, it is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.
When you donate crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value. You also avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto, and then made the donation. This means you are able to donate more and deduct more from your taxes. The difference? Sometimes more than 30 percent!
If you provide an email, you will automatically receive a tax receipt after donating.
