The Card family’s journey with Breakthrough T1D began in 2013, when Rob joined the Breakthrough T1D Ride in honor of their son, Mike, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at age 10. Rob later worked at Medtronic in the diabetes division, where he led the Medtronic Ride team—an effort that continues today, along with a scholarship program that awards ten $1,000 scholarships to female STEM students through Beyond Type 1.

After completing three Rides himself, Rob encouraged Jean to join him, and she completed her first Ride in Burlington, Vermont. Since then, Rob and Jean have raised more than $131,000 through the Ride program and supported nearly every Chapter event.

Jean has become one of our most dedicated Chapter Ride Coaches, helping grow the program by more than $70,000 in her first year. She has also served as emcee for several Rides and now sits on our Chapter Board of Directors, continuing to lead with passion and purpose.

We are deeply grateful to the Card family for their unwavering commitment to Breakthrough T1D. Their dedication—rooted in love and driven by hope—brings us closer each day to a future without T1D.
