This year marks a major milestone for Breakthrough T1D Agawam Walk Team, Jacob’s Justice League, as they celebrate 10 years of walking, fundraising, and advocating for a better future for people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
The team was founded by Stacy, mom to Jacob, who was diagnosed with T1D at just four years old. Now 13, Jacob has spent nearly a decade growing up alongside Jacob’s Justice League—a team created in his honor and powered by love, determination, and hope.
“When Jacob was diagnosed, we didn’t know anyone else living with type 1 diabetes,” Stacy shares. “It felt isolating and overwhelming.”
That began to change when their family found Breakthrough T1D and the Breakthrough T1D Walk. What started as a way to take action quickly became a source of connection and strength.
“Breakthrough T1D has created a community in a journey that can often feel isolating,” Stacy says. “Now, Jacob is surrounded by people who truly understand what daily life with T1D looks like.”
Each year, Stacy leads Jacob’s Justice League as team captain, bringing together family, friends, and supporters who walk in honor of Jacob and everyone living with T1D. For the past 10 years, the Walk has become more than a tradition—it’s a powerful reminder that they are not alone.
“For our family, participating in the Walk every year is a day where Jacob feels supported in his daily battle,” Stacy shares. “It’s where our community comes together to fuel hope and drive change.”
The impact of that commitment is undeniable. This year alone, Jacob’s Justice League has raised more than $17,000 for the Breakthrough T1D Walk, officially pushing their fundraising total to over $100,000 raised over the last 10 years—a milestone that reflects both generosity and unwavering dedication.
Breakthrough T1D is the leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization and has played a role in nearly every major T1D breakthrough in history. From advancing new therapies and improving access to care, to expanding research, advocacy, and community support, no organization does more to improve everyday life with T1D.
With the support of teams like Jacob’s Justice League, Breakthrough T1D is building a movement to improve and change life with type 1 diabetes—while advancing life-changing breakthroughs on the path to cures.
“Being part of this Walk gives us strength to keep pushing forward,” Stacy says. “We’re working toward the future we all want—a life for our son that doesn’t include T1D.”
As Jacob’s Justice League celebrates 10 years of impact, the message is clear: every step matters, every dollar makes a difference, and together we are moving closer to a world without type 1 diabetes.
