In August of 2005, Christopher “Topher” Feyre was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, which meant his body would be insulin dependent, through injections, for the rest of his life. In October of the same year, Christopher established “Toph’s Troops” with a single mission: to fight juvenile diabetes through fundraising. Research is the key to finding the cause, prevention, treatment and cure of diabetes and its complications. Since its founding in 1970, by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, Breakthrough T1D has awarded more than $1.6 billion dollars to diabetes research, including more than $137 million in 2007. Today, life for children affected by type 1 diabetes has greatly improved over years past due to technological advancements in research. Children now enjoy longer, healthier and somewhat normal lives, which is the main reason Topher champions the cause today.
