Dear Friends,
It’s 2 a.m. The house is quiet. And Harper’s alarm is going off… again.
She’s 14 years old. She should be sleeping. Instead, she’s forcing herself awake to treat a dangerous low blood sugar because if she doesn’t, she may not wake up.
This isn’t a bad night. This is a Tuesday.
And it’s why we’re asking for your help.
Harper was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 17, 2023, at just 11 years old. Her body lost the ability to produce insulin. From that moment on, every hour of every day became a calculation — food, insulin, activity, sleep, supplies — where the margin for error isn’t discomfort. It’s life-threatening.
There is no break. No reset. No cure. And yet, Harper shows up.
She is a competitive cheerleader, a straight-A student, and one of the most determined people we know. She manages her numbers, gives herself insulin, treats highs and lows and goes right back to being a teenager.
But what inspires us most is this: Harper doesn’t just want to endure this disease. She wants to end it. She dreams of becoming an endocrinologist or working in a research lab to cure type 1 diabetes for herself, and for the 1.9 million Americans living with it today.
Breakthrough T1D has been there for our family since the day Harper was diagnosed. The technology that wakes us at 2 a.m. to save her life exists because of decades of research they have funded. Real progress is happening. But we are not there yet.
You can help finish it.
We invite you to join us as a sponsor at the 2026 Breakthrough T1D Promise Gala on Saturday, November 14th at The Arizona Biltmore. If you are unable to attend, please make 100% tax-deductible Fund A Cure gift before October 9th to be recognized at the event:
- A gift of $1,000 helps fund critical early-stage research
- $5,000 supports clinical advancements toward new therapies
- $10,000+ accelerates the breakthroughs that move us closer to a cure
Every dollar moves us closer to the day Harper, and millions of others, no longer must wake up at 2 a.m. to stay alive. A cure is not a dream. It’s our direction. And with your support, we will get there.
With love and gratitude,
The Jackman Family

This is a solvable problem… if we solve it together.
