Breakthrough T1D has a long history of working with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioners to help accelerate cures and therapies for type 1 diabetes (T1D). We recently had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Heidi Overton, the nominee to be the next FDA Commissioner. During that meeting she shared that she lives with T1D and the harrowing story of her T1D diagnosis. We deeply appreciate her sharing her lived experience with us. Her story will help others to better understand the risks and challenges of living with T1D.
We also shared with Dr. Overton our critical mission to accelerate cures for T1D while improving the lives of all those living with it. Bringing to FDA her unique perspective as an American living with T1D would be a first for our community and those living with complex diseases. The FDA is a powerful partner in the mission to advance cures, creating pathways for clinical trials and drug approvals that can quickly and safely deliver new and transformative therapies for the T1D community. Breakthrough T1D is grateful to Dr. Overton for taking the time to meet with us and for sharing her story. We welcome the Senate HELP Committee considering her nomination this week and, should she be confirmed, we look forward to working with her and the dedicated career professionals at FDA to advance the next generation of breakthroughs for T1D.
