2026 Los Angeles Gala Fund A Cure Family

We are the Adamick Family and are so honored to be the Breakthrough T1D 2026 Fund A Cure Family.

Life as we knew it changed on March 18, 2023, when our daughter Charlotte, age 3 at the time, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A few months later, just as we were getting our bearings managing her condition and welcoming our younger daughter Hazel, Charlotte was also diagnosed with celiac disease. 2023 brought an overwhelming amount of change and uncertainty that felt like something few other people could understand.

Looking for support, we found Breakthrough T1D. It became an invaluable source of community for our family and helped us gain a renewed sense of hope around Charlotte’s future. For the last 3 ½ years, we, along with Charlotte’s grandparents Bonnie and John, have been grateful supporters of its mission. We have attended local galas and research events, Charlotte’s Aunt Emily completed the 2024 New York City Marathon as part of the Breakthrough T1D team, and this year, Charlotte became a Youth Ambassador.

Despite all she endures each day, Charlotte impresses everyone she meets with her positivity, joyfulness, and enthusiasm for life. She is a lively first grader who loves reading, soccer, basketball, swimming, singing, dancing, and art. She handles the challenges and unpredictability of living with T1D with a grace and good humor that inspires everyone who knows her.

Thanks to research and advancements supported by Breakthrough T1D, we have traded daily injections for an insulin pump and hourly finger pricks for a continuous glucose monitor. Most importantly, research has given us the belief that a cure could one day be possible in Charlotte’s lifetime.

The future is full of promise and we value and appreciate every gesture of support received from friends and family. We do not make this appeal lightly – contributing to further the efforts to study and better the lives of those with this condition is extraordinarily meaningful and personal to our family. Every gift will help accelerate research and bring us closer to a cure for Charlotte and everyone living with T1D.
