About
I am Asher Stanley’s Nana.
He is six years old, and two years ago he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It changed all of our lives. But Asher has not missed a beat. He is still the same sweet, funny, happy, spunky boy he has always been. T1D brought so many changes and so many challenges, and he has taken every one of them in stride without a single complaint. We could not be more proud of him.
Here is what I have learned over the past two years. Asher manages his T1D better today than he would have even a few years ago, and that is not luck. It is research. Pumps that deliver insulin automatically, monitors that track his glucose around the clock instead of finger pricks, a screening test that can catch T1D in a child before they ever get sick. Breakthrough T1D funds the science behind those things. They have had a hand in nearly every major T1D breakthrough in history.
Now they are working on the part I care about most. Curing it. That work is happening right now on three fronts: catching T1D early in kids who are at risk, developing therapies that stop it from progressing, and replacing the cells that make insulin so kids like Asher can produce their own again. That is what your donation pays for. The next study, the next trial, the next step.
I wish I could but I can’t cure this for my grandson. But I can help fund the people who will, and so can you.
Please join us. Any amount gets us closer.
With love and gratitude,
Mary, Megan, Kaden, and Asher
