Educational Sessions
- Current State of Management of Type 1 Diabetes: A 2025 Update | The management of T1D in 2025 is shaped by significant advancements in technology, treatment approaches, and patient-centered care. Emerging strategies focused on delaying disease onset and improving quality of life for individuals throughout their lifespan are being widely adopted. Jeanine’s insights are drawn from her experiences as a T1D mother, diabetes educator, and triage nurse in a large endocrine practice. She will discuss the available options, back up plans, strategies for navigating health insurance, and emphasize the importance of advocacy.
- Developing School Partnerships to Support Learning in Children with T1D | Growing up with T1D is complicated. In this workshop, we discuss raising kids with T1D to be strong and healthy, both physically and mentally. We talk about the emotional and social aspects of growing up with a chronic medical condition, focusing on how parents can partner with schools. We’ll cover the impact of blood sugar fluctuations on brain functioning and learning, and how to work with teachers and school nurses to foster learning and development. We’ll also discuss accommodations that can be integrated into 504 plans and IEPs so that our T1D kids can grow and thrive.
- Transitioning to Independence: A Guide for Young Adults with T1D | Whether headed off to college or into the workforce, the “Transitioning to Independence Guide” was compiled to help young adults who live with T1D navigate some of life’s biggest transitions. The guide was created by members of Breakthrough T1D’s Young Adult Advocacy Council (YAAC), a group of young adults who actively support the advancement of Breakthrough T1D’s advocacy priority areas and spread awareness of T1D within their communities. This session discusses the topics covered in the guide, including wellness, managing relationships, preparing for college, studying abroad, and the workplace. The Transitioning to Independence Guide is for informational purposes only and should not be used in place of medical advice from a professional healthcare provider.
