Family Honoree – Our T1D Story
Our journey with Breakthrough T1D began in 2008, shortly after our daughter Juliana – just four years old at the time – was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Like so many families, we were overwhelmed at first, but quickly found hope and direction through this incredible organization. By 2009, we had formed our first Beat the Bridge team with Team Juliana, rallying a group of friends, colleagues, and family members to support Juliana and the mission to find a cure.
Over the years, Elisa proudly served on the chapter board, including as board president. Juliana has been a Beat the Bridge Ambassador and Washington State delegate to the Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress. Greg and Elisa have co-chaired the Friends & Family Committee for Beat the Bridge the last 3 years. And Greg has begun serving his term on the chapter board only recently. Through it all, Team Juliana has raised nearly $1 million for diabetes research after participating in Beat the Bridge for 18 consecutive years. We are eternally grateful to all those who have supported us in this cause for so long.
Today, Juliana is a college graduate who continues to thrive, even while managing the daily challenges of this condition. The progress we have seen in the tools and technologies available to her has been extraordinary—and it’s all thanks to the advances powered by Breakthrough T1D research and advocacy.
We believe the next decade holds even greater promise. There are realistic cures on the horizon. That is why we remain dedicated to Breakthrough T1D’s mission to cure, prevent, and treat T1D—and to the vibrant, compassionate community and critical resources it provides for those living with the condition and their families.
