Katie made her debut on “American Ninja Warrior” in season 14, becoming one of the youngest females to reach the National Finals. Today, she has her sights set on the Olympics for speed climbing.
General Session – Keynote Address | Katie is from Bernalillo, NM, and is an American Ninja Warrior and professional rock climber. She is also passionate about educating others about T1D, advocating for representation, and supporting T1D research to find a cure. Today, she has her sights set on the Olympics for speed climbing.
General Session – Research Update | Dr. Ahn is an Endocrinologist with a focus in Diabetes and Metabolism and currently serves as Chief of Diabetes Services at Hoag. He is passionate about empowering people with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and gestational diabetes to optimize their blood sugar control while minimizing the emotional burden of living with chronic disease.
Breakout Session – How to Navigate the Highs and Lows of Type 1 Diabetes | Sandy is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in pediatric endocrinology in Orange County. For more than two decades, she has dedicated her career to caring for children and families navigating endocrine disorders, particularly type 1 diabetes. In addition to her clinical work, Sandy serves on the Breakthrough T1D Greater Orange County Chapter Board of Directors.
Breakout Session – Clinical Trials | Michelle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience in outpatient care, designing and implementing clinical programs to increase access to care for pediatric populations with T1D and other chronic conditions. She currently serves on the Medical Affairs team at Breakthrough T1D, working to increase access and adoption of innovative therapies for people living with T1D.
Breakout Session – Clinical Trials | Samantha is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with over 25 years of experience in diabetes care. She has been with Rady Children’s Health (formerly CHOC) for over 14 years and currently serves as Program Manager of the Diabetes Center in Newport Beach, where she also leads the Insulin Pump and Sensor Program. Samantha is dedicated to staying at the forefront of diabetes technology and is passionate about educating patients and families on effectively using the latest tools.
Breakout Session – Coping & Connecting with T1D | Carly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist dedicated to providing mental health support to the T1D community in California. Carly was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 15, an experience that deeply shaped her perspective and career path. Her lived experience allows her to support others with empathy, authenticity, and a genuine understanding of life with diabetes.
