We are currently hiring to fill two positions at the Breakthrough T1D Northern California Chapter:
Development Manager
Mid to Senior-level development position at Breakthrough T1D Northern California Chapter. Serves in leadership role overseeing event budget and fundraising goals. Partners with assigned volunteers and constituents. Supervises select volunteers or committees. Leadership responsibility for managing, coordinating and leveraging the comprehensive development areas of the chapter social events.
Remote position. Ability to travel locally in Northern California required. Occasional evening and weekend work required as needed.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with Development Director and Executive Director partner with volunteer leadership, donors, committees, and constituents to both renew and secure new support through event fundraising management including sponsorships, table/ticket sales, Fund A Cure, and donations for the chapter’s flagship Hope Gala event.
- Manages a personal portfolio of constituents to develop increased giving. Supports additional team member portfolios as assigned.
- Manages, evaluates, and expands fundraising and non-fundraising programs under the direction of the Development Director and in collaboration with the resource team and volunteer leadership.
- Provides management for chapter and community development activities such as fundraising, relationship building, events, corporate partnership development, volunteer development, outreach, advocacy, marketing and communication, and education programs.
- Helps identify and qualify a pipeline of leads/donors who meet agreed upon criteria for ‘mid’, ‘high-mid’ and ‘major’ giving potential, within and outside of our event structure.
- Helps formulate and implement strategies and tactics for Chapter fundraising and development activities to sustain continued growth, maximum penetration of core market areas and opportunities for expansion where appropriate
- In partnership with supervisor and team, manages and continually develops assigned committees providing leadership, cultivation, acknowledgement, material support, and assistance in building and implementing annual committee plans.
- Identifies, builds, and stewards relationships with community and corporate leaders as an integral part of volunteer and donor prospect development and engagement in Breakthrough T1D activities.
- Oversees of Gala logistics which is handled by the Event Coordinator and ensure that the budget/timelines are developed and met for each applicable event.
- Oversees event vendors which is handled by the Event Coordinator such as venue, catering, and others across all events.
- Oversees the entire event registration and seating which is handled by the and Event Coordinator in charge of guest services
- Utilizes CRM database for community, donor, and constituent management.
- Develops and maintains high-level expertise in fundraising management platforms including Greater Giving and OneCause.
- Ensures that all deliverables are met according to event donor/sponsorship agreements.
- Helps to support in the creation of key communications-related aspects for campaigns and events such as the design and creation of invitations, social media content, and other event related communications.
- Networks with the National/Regional staff resource team and other Breakthrough T1D chapters to discuss best practices and share new ideas.
- .Maintains a good understanding of Breakthrough T1D’s mission and priorities.
- Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of Breakthrough T1D. Serves as a key staff member in implementing the strategic direction and purpose of the Chapter.
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Development Assistant
This is an opportunity to join a strong Chapter team and work closely with the development team, local leadership, regional teams, and an outstanding group of volunteers to increase the reach and impact of the Chapter. This position is based out of the Northern California Chapter. The Development Assistant is a member of the Peer to Peer Fundraising Team and reports to the Development Director. The position is remote but must be based in Northern California to support the Northern California region. The expectation is that staff will be available for in-person meetings and other in-person gatherings as required and when safe to do so.
The Development Assistant helps to organize, coordinate, implement, and expand a variety of the Chapter’s development activities that build and strengthen links to potential and existing volunteers and donors and that grow the Chapter’s revenue mainly through Peer to Peer fundraising events such as the Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Ride to Cure Diabetes, Third Party and Your Way events, as well as Challenge events. This position also supports chapter corporate, individual, volunteer, and other community involvement related to Peer to Peer fundraising.
Responsibilities
- Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of Breakthrough T1D. Understands the strategic direction and purpose of the organization and supports the Chapter’s fundraising strategies and business needs.
- Provide general administrative support to the Peer to Peer fundraising team and other chapter staff as needed.
- Assists in the functioning of the Chapter’s daily operations, projects, and tasks.
- Oversees diverse administrative duties for the Chapter including providing administrative support for fundraising activities, which includes managing fundraising events and donor prospects, supporting solicitations, tracking and acknowledging donations, and preparing information needed for meetings.
- Ensures timely and accurate daily usage of CRM to document activities with donors and volunteers.
- Assists with volunteer recruitment, assignment, and management as needed.
- Provides support for event social media, websites and marketing systems as needed.
- Certifies accurate recording of information in database, file system, and/or records. Creates, updates, and revises as needed.
- Manages Peer to Peer event supply inventory, orders necessary supplies when needed.
- Ensures personal accountability for meeting deadlines and responding to volunteers and other department requests.
- Keeps steady communication between team members and volunteer leaders.
- Maintains a good understanding of Breakthrough T1D’s mission and research cure therapeutics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
