About

Dear Friends,

It has been 18 years since Jack was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The memory of that day is still vivid for our family, marking a clear divide in our lives: before and after T1D. Over the years, we have worked consistently towards finding a cure, and the support from our friends and family has been instrumental. Thanks to technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs, some patients in clinical trials have achieved insulin independence.

While Jack benefits from the technology provided by his Dexcom CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and Tandem insulin pump, his life remains incredibly challenging. Managing his blood sugar levels 24/7 is a constant source of stress, especially while balancing a full-time job and evening MBA classes. His hectic schedule is further complicated by frequent supply shortages due to insurance constraints and the difficulty of concentrating when his blood sugar is too high or too low. It is a relentless struggle.

In June, JDRF rebranded to Breakthrough T1D. Despite the new name and look, their mission remains the same: to drive towards curing type 1 diabetes while improving the daily lives of those living with the disease. They are committed to making breakthroughs for everyone in the T1D community, not just juveniles.

We are once again supporting the Illinois Breakthrough T1D gala, which will be held on Saturday, December 14, with Train as the entertainment. Last year’s event raised $18 million, and we are determined to surpass that amount this year. Anne will be co-chairing the auction, which always features amazing items donated by hundreds of supporters.

With your support, one thing is certain: it’s not a matter of IF a cure will happen, but WHEN. Can we make the next breakthrough happen in 10 years, 5 years, or even 3? We will continue to support Breakthrough T1D until a cure is found.

Join us in this vital mission.

Sincerely,

Bob & Anne Pillion
