Meet Doug Lowenstein
Breakthrough T1D International Board of Directors, Breakthrough T1D Executive Committee,
Research Committee, and Development Committee
Doug Lowenstein has been involved with Breakthrough T1D since his daughter Emma was
diagnosed in 2001 at age 14. He served two stints on the Breakthrough T1D International
Board of Directors, and served on the Development Committee and spent
seven years on the Research Committee. Over the last decade, he has
appeared at scores of chapter events to discuss the Breakthrough T1D research program.
From 2011-15, Doug served as a consultant to Breakthrough T1D, working on a range of
projects including leading an 18-month strategic planning process, developing
new marketing and communications strategies and materials, and leading
legislative and regulatory campaigns.
Professionally, Doug started his career as a journalist in Washington, DC,
worked as a senior Senate staffer, as a strategic communications and policy
consultant, and as founding CEO of two industry trade associations for the
video game industry and the private equity industry respectively. In July 2017
Lowenstein became a Founding Partner in Convergency LLC. Convergency
builds and manages coalitions and advocacy campaigns, works with nonprofits
and foundations to improve and accelerate progress toward mission success,
including many patient advocacy organizations in multiple disease areas. Doug
also served for seven years on the Board of The Center for Democracy and
Technology, a leading Internet freedom and privacy think tank.
