The 2023-2024 Youth Ambassador (YA) Program provides the opportunity for youth leaders living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the Mid-Atlantic chapter territory (Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC and Berkeley & Jefferson counties in West Virginia) to engage in unique chapter and national activities to support the Breakthrough T1D mission by inspiring chapter community members, advancing fundraising, supporting chapter events, and stewarding donors.
Youth Ambassadors will gain confidence in talking about T1D, develop leadership skills, connect and collaborate with peers with T1D, develop and enhance speaking and story-telling skills, and engage with Mid-Atlantic chapter members and T1D leaders while advancing the mission of Breakthrough T1D.
To be considered for the Youth Ambassador Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Between the ages of 5-18 years (Kindergarten – Grade 12)
- Living with T1D for at least one year
- Have a positive outlook on life and diabetes
- Commit to the program for the entire school-year (September-June)
- Commit to volunteer a minimum of five hours to support Breakthrough T1D programs and/or events
- Commit to attend and/or participate in a minimum of four Breakthrough T1D engagements or events
- Commit to lead a fundraiser raising a minimum of $100
Please submit your application (which includes required waivers and a photo release) by 10:00 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2023. You will be notified no later than Friday, September 15 if you’ve been selected for the program.
