Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D.
JDRF’s chief mission officer, Dr. Kowalski combines his professional experience as a scientist with his personal experience of living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to help guide and champion Breakthrough T1D’s programs focused on creating a world without T1D. Dr. Kowalski, an internationally recognized expert in diabetes technologies, is a leader of Breakthrough T1D’s Artificial Pancreas Research Project, a multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the progress toward automated insulin-delivery systems. He has authored numerous articles on T1D research and was a coauthor of the landmark study in The New England Journal of Medicine that revealed the effectiveness of continuous glucose monitors in T1D management.
Iñigo San Millán, Ph.D.
Iñigo San Millán, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the Director of the Sports Performance Program at the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Millán is an internationally renowned applied physiologist having worked for the past 20 years for many professional teams and elite athletes worldwide across multiple sports like running, football, soccer, basketball, rowing, triathlon, swimming, Olympics and cycling including eight Pro Cycling Teams. He has also been a consultant in exercise physiology and sports medicine to international organizations like the U.S. Olympic Committee and the International Cycling Union.
