About Amelia

On August 3, 2024, our lives changed forever. What began as an ordinary summer day quickly turned into a medical emergency when Amelia was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and hospitalized in diabetic ketoacidosis. The diagnosis was shocking and overwhelming. How could such a healthy, vibrant child become sick so suddenly?

In the year and a half since, Amelia has navigated the daily realities of type 1 diabetes with remarkable strength, grace, and resilience. Like every person living with T1D, she faces constant highs and lows, calculations and decisions—but she does not face them alone. Breakthrough T1D has been a steady source of hope, education, and support, and its groundbreaking research and advocacy have helped make life with T1D safer, healthier, and more manageable. Thanks to advances in technology and treatment driven by Breakthrough T1D, Amelia is able to stay active, enjoy the foods she loves, and simply be a kid.

Amelia is proud to serve as a Youth Ambassador for this year’s Breakthrough T1D Gala. Breakthrough T1D has played a critical role in nearly every major T1D breakthrough in history—from research and therapy development to advocacy and access to care.
