Know Before You Go: Breakthrough T1D One Walk Colorado

In just over one week, the Colorado type 1 diabetes (T1D) community will be gathering for the largest T1D party in the state at Breakthrough T1D One Walk! You won’t want to miss out on the fun at the Jeffco Fairgrounds in Golden – register today at walk.jdrf.org/Colorado!
We’ve added new elements to the Breakthrough T1D One Walk so be sure to check out…
- T1D Champion Parade! Make sure to arrive and meet us near the stage at 9:20am to experience the first ever T1D Champion Parade in Colorado! This is a way to honor all of the people we love who courageously battle T1D day-in and day-out. This cannot be missed!
- Teen Tent! Hosted by Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassadors, you’ll enjoy a variety of activities geared towards teenagers including friendship bracelets, exclusive snacks and treats (hello, Italian sodas!), Spikeball, Mario Kart and more!
- Food Trucks! We’re thrilled to have The Magic Food Bus and Bandwagon Sandwich Co. joining us at Breakthrough T1D One Walk, so don’t forget to come hungry and bring your wallet.
We want your Walk Day to be the best day ever. so here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:
What is the schedule of events?
8:00am: Walk site opens (Don’t forget to visit the Breakthrough T1D Tent to pick up your T1D Identifier, check out our vendor partners and enjoy activities)
8:55am: Performance by Golden High School Cheer at the stage
9:10am: Zumba Warm-up at the stage
9:30am: National Anthem & T1D Parade
9:50am: Opening Ceremony
10:00am: Walk Begins!
12:00pm: Event ends
Where should I park?
V1Ps who have raised $1,000+ will have access to the V1P lot closest to the event site. Parking for all attendees is available in marked lots throughout Jeffco Fairgrounds. View a parking map here!
How long is the route?
This year’s route is approximately 1.6 miles on flat paved and unpaved roads. The route is wheelchair and stroller accessible. There are marked shortcuts for those who do not wish to complete the full route. View the route map here!
This is my first Breakthrough T1D One Walk – is there anything I need to do?
We’re so glad you’re joining us! Make sure to stop by the New Family Tent to meet other families new to the T1D community, veteran families who “get it” and pick up your special gift.
What activities should I expect?
There’s something for everyone! Be sure to stop by Floyd’s 99 Barbershop to get your hair dyed blue with blue hairspray! In the Kid’s Activities area, you’ll find face painting, Home Depot activity kits, bounce houses and yard games. The Colorado Rapids Street Team will be joining us with RapidMan and activities. Plus, is it even a Breakthrough T1D One Walk if you don’t get a photo with a Star Wars Storm Trooper?
This year, the all-new Teen Tent will include friendship-bracelet making and trading, exclusive snacks and treats, Spikeball, Mario Kart and more for our friends ages 11-17. You won’t want to miss it!
How do I get my Breakthrough T1D One Walk t-shirt?
Walkers raising $100 or more automatically get an email with a code to redeem your t-shirt and have it sent directly to your home! Once you hit $100, look out for an email from cs.jdrf@summitmg.com with instructions on how to redeem your t-shirt! Make sure to check your junk folder!
Can I turn in cash or check donations?
Cash or checks should be mailed in advance with a note about which walker the gift should go to at:

Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Leashed dogs who do well in large crowds are more than welcome to join you on Walk Day. Please note that retractable leashes are discouraged.
