More about our Speakers:

  • JDRF-Funded researchers and clinicians Aaron Michels, MD and Peter Gottlieb, MD will join us to talk about their company ImmunoMolecular Therapeutics (“IM Therapeutics”), a clinical stage company developing personalized therapies for autoimmune disease. IM Therapeutics received an investment from Breakthrough T1D’s T1D Fund, and seeks to develop personalized medicines for autoimmune diseases by building oral drug therapies against human leukocyte antigen (HLA) variants known to confer high risk of disease. The Company is building a broad HLA-targeted pipeline in autoimmune disorders including celiac disease. Click here to learn more about IM Therapeutics.
  • Vice Chair of the International Board of Directors Lisa F. Wallack is a long-time volunteer leader of the New England chapter, first getting involved when her parents Marilyn and Gerald Fishbone were among the founders of Breakthrough T1D (then known as “JDF”) after her brother Scott was diagnosed with T1D in 1970 at the age of 18 months, and then increasing her involvement when her son Harris was diagnosed in 2001 at the age of 5. Locally, Lisa has served as President of the New England Chapter Board and remains active with the chapter.  Lisa and her husband Neil are proud to be major donors to Breakthrough T1D as well as investors in the T1D Fund. Lisa is an attorney by training and volunteers at numerous other community organizations, often in a role managing major gift campaigns and soliciting major gifts.  She served as co-chair of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies’ $57 million annual campaign, co-chaired The Rashi School’s $30 million capital campaign, and Gann Academy’s $15 million Comprehensive Campaign. She and her family participate in all Breakthrough T1D programs, including the Walk and Gala, and she supports her husband Neil’s participation in endurance events including the Boston Marathon and the Breakthrough T1D Ride program, which collectively have raised over $850K for Breakthrough T1D. Lisa graduated with a B.A. in The Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania and with a J.D., summa cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. In addition to their son, Harris, Lisa and Neil have a son, Perry and a daughter, Sydney. They live in Weston, Massachusetts.
  • Erika Bates is part of the Breakthrough T1D Family as a T1D Mom, and has served as a sommelier and fine wine specialist in the Denver Metro Area for 26 years. She attended culinary school at Kendall College in Chicago and her passion is fine dining and showcasing Old World wines from Europe. She is partnered with many fine restauranteurs in their mission to create a Fine European dining experience right here in Denver.

More about Restaurant Olivia:

Restaurant Olivia is a pasta focused Italian restaurant located in Denver’s Wash Park neighborhood, most recently featured in 5280 Magazine. Olivia is the second project from chef Ty Leon, beverage guru Austin Carson and hospitality maven Heather Morrison. Each evening we open the doors to our restaurant as if it were our home, treating guests with warmth and graciousness. Rather than focus on any one Italian region, Olivia is all about the handmade pasta. We draw inspiration from the Italian classics and look to the traditions that form the bedrock of its wonderfully eclectic food and drink culture, but we will, from time to time, feature flavors and dishes from all over the world. Our food is made with care and intention with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Our beverage program features expertly crafted but playful cocktails and an Italian focused, but international wine list.
