Gala Honorees
Jennifer and Ken Allred know all too well the overwhelming fear and uncertainty that comes with a type 1 diabetes (T1D) diagnosis. They experienced these feelings first-hand when their son Jackson was diagnosed with T1D at the age of one. The Allreds were not about to sit around and let this disease just happen to their family. They found their community in JDRF (now “Breakthrough T1D”) and dove head-first into our mission. The Allreds have literally touched every aspect of our organization during the twenty years that have passed since Jackson’s diagnosis. From starting new Walks around the country, to leading the Nebraska Walk through an unprecedented world-wide pandemic, to advocating for our T1D community with our Members of Congress at Capitol Hill, to participating in multiple century bike rides for our mission, to now leading our Nebraska Gala, the Allreds have put their hearts and souls into finding cures for Jackson and all of our T1D loved ones. We are blessed to have champions like this fighting for our community. Please join us in congratulating and thanking our 2025 Nebraska Gala Honorees: Jennifer and Ken Allred. John Ondrasik is the songwriter and performer known as the platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated, Five For Fighting, with chart topping hits like “Superman (It’s Not Easy),” and “100 years.”
The reflective “100 Years” has joined “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” as part of the American Songbook and continues to stand the test of time at weddings, birthdays, graduations, memorials, and many a home video.
