My name is Eliseo Geraldi and I am currently 15 years old.  At the age of 12, I was suddenly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Life with T1D is difficult.  It upended the normalcy out of my life. To me, my diagnosis was so great and devastating, that I decided to hide it and try my best to conceal it. I made that choice because I wanted to minimize the impact and the limitations it has forced into my life.  Anything can trigger a little emergency with type 1 diabetes, some people at school have found out about my disease, and I have heard them make jokes about it.

The management and symptoms of type 1 diabetes, is always in the back of my head.  It is the one thing I am most worried about. There is never a second where I have no worries from it. I can’t eat or drink without having to stab myself or stare at my phone waiting for my lows or highs to stabilize.

My life before type 1 diabetes was very happy and if there was a cure that was found, I’m 100% sure this would have the biggest impact on my life forever. If there was a cure, I could be a normal person and finally do the things I always wanted to do.
