The Breakthrough T1D Community Summit is an educational and networking opportunity for all those impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D). Community Summit will bring our community together to learn from T1D experts, hear about the latest breakthroughs in T1D research, meet vendor exhibitors, connect with others impacted by T1D, and more. The educational program and conversations will be geared towards an adult audience, but we do have limited space in our Youth & Teen Programming available.

April Blackwell

April Blackwell is an aerospace engineer at NASA who is living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Fascinated by space from a young age, April’s path was reshaped by her T1D diagnosis at age 11. Rather than letting that diagnosis limit her ambitions, she used it as motivation to overcome barriers and challenge assumptions about what people with diabetes can achieve. Today, April brings extensive experience to her role, including hundreds of hours aboard experimental helicopters, participation in elite military training activities, and thousands of hours supporting human spaceflight missions from the ground.
