Hello Breakthrough T1D Walkers!
That crisp little breeze we feel every now and then can mean just one thing – Walk season is nearly upon us.
Yep, this year’s Walk to Cure Diabetes events are in October, which is just a few weeks from now. That means it’s time to put our noses to the proverbial grindstone to make this year’s walks wildly successful.
The first step is to register yourself and your amazing walk team at walk.jdrf.org.
The Bay Area has four spectacular walks from which to choose:
- Lover’s Point, Pacific Grove, October 6
- Oakland Zoo, October 13
- California’s Great America, Santa Clara, October 20
- Great Meadow at Fort Mason, San Francisco, October 27
Each walk has its own flair and personality, so choose the walk that best suits your friends and family.
Once you’re registered, it’s time to start fundraising. The best way to raise big bucks for yourself and your team is to send a personal letter or note to absolutely every single person you know. Don’t be shy. The worst that can happen is that someone will say no or just ignore your plea. But more often than not, you’ll be rewarded with a generous donation and maybe even a kind note of support.
The key to successful fundraising is to send reminders – at least two or three. People have good intentions, but busy lives. You’re bound to get an influx of donations with each gentle and fun reminder you send.
If you have a creative fundraising idea that’s worked well for your walk team, please drop me a note at zoe.francis@me.com. Maybe we’ll feature your team in next month’s newsletter.
No more dilly-dallying. It’s time to register for the walk, raise money and work together to find a cure.
