Hello everyone! On Sunday, January 12, I will be participating in a special event for Carb DM: Asian Outreach Day – Sushi, Samosas, Shumai and Sugars. I will be speaking as a panelist – to reach out to other Asians living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) like me. I am very fortunate to be in a good place right now. I have a supportive family and friends who watch out for me and never make me feel ‘different.’ I feel like my T1D is manageable, and I am at a point where it helps me to reach out to others, and doesn’t stifle me. I recognize that others might not be there yet, and I want to help them get there.
This further continues my role as a Breakthrough T1D Walk Ambassador – I want to reach out to others like me who may be newly diagnosed, or feeling shy about their T1D due to cultural or other reasons. At the event, I will be asked questions regarding my feelings about being public about my condition, about how my parents react to out of control blood sugars, and other ‘interesting’ questions like that.
