There were so many people who care and want to help and support Breakthrough T1D in any way possible – it was great to meet all of them. There was a wonderful DJ, and a very enthusiastic and supportive crowd.
I was scheduled to speak at the event – I had written a speech, and had practiced it. I was a little nervous, but I had prepared and was ready to stand and deliver. After I spoke, we did a question and answer game where we answered questions about diabetes and could get a prize! My little brother actually knew what an artificial pancreas was, and received a huge basket full of goodies! After that, we heard about some research updates, and these gave all of us hope that a cure is in sight.
We were lucky to have a really beautiful day, and it was really awesome to run on the field with the A’s. It was so cool to stand next to Jed Lowrie, and the signed ball is totally a keeper! We also got A’s t-shirts and were on TV! Breakthrough T1D was also mentioned on the jumbotron, and they mentioned us on the loudspeaker.
This was such an amazing opportunity to share my story and encourage people to support diabetes research and a cure! Altogether, it was an outstanding event and I had a wonderful time speaking, and watching the game! I hope to do many more events like this in the future!
