Walkers at this year’s Oakland Zoo Walk to Cure Diabetes have a ton of fun activities to look forward to on walk day, including the return of the always-popular T-shirt contest.
The T-shirt contest is back by popular demand after being on hiatus for a couple of years. The idea behind the contest is to boost spirit by encouraging teams to create cool matching T-shirts for all of their walkers to wear.
Making the T-shirt contest even more exciting is the fact that we’re also resurrecting the concept of having a theme for this year’s Walk. That’s a tradition that dropped by the wayside in recent years.
We are tickled pink to announce that the theme of this year’s walk is Paradise is a Cure. We’re hoping everyone will get excited about this tropical theme and come up with lots of creative T-shirts and accessories to wear on walk day.
We’ll have two T-shirts contests – one for family teams and one for corporate teams. The winners are chosen based on crowd enthusiasm. This is an informal contest with the grand prize being the joy of winning. That’s right, folks. It’s all about pride. The winning team T-shirt will also be featured in our post-walk newsletters.
Oakland Zoo walkers can also look forward to the return of the popular silent auction that we pioneered last year. Be sure to check future newsletters for details about auction items that will be offered. We already have a weekend stay at a lovely Sea Ranch vacation home, a children’s birthday party at a real firehouse and some awesome wine.
Finally, this year’s Walk will also see the return of the wildly popular drawings for an Oakland Zoo annual family pass and the super cool opportunity to feed the giraffes on Walk day. Drawing chances will be available for suggested donations on walk day.
