T1D Adults Hike Don’t Spike
May 17, 2025, Marin County, CA
9:30 am
Our Breakthrough T1D Hike Don’t Spike event for adults on May 17 will travel along the very scenic Coastal Trail Loop atop Mt. Tam. This is a moderately challenging ~7 mile, 1200’ elevation gain hike . The first ~2.5 miles are single track trails with overviews of the Pacific Ocean and Stinson Beach, with wildflowers and waving grasses on the hillsides along with a mysterious old, rusted car wreck. We’ll then descend on wide fire roads into the woods for a break at a picnic area near Laurel Dell Falls. We’ll then ascend through recently culled Douglas Firs and over rocky outcroppings of green serpentine, with an option to visit the 50-year-old Music Stand. We’ll meet at 9:30AM in the Rock Springs Trailhead parking lot, which has free parking and outhouses. Please allow adequate time to reach the lot. Dogs are not allowed.
This is the latest in a series of events designed for T1D adults who enjoy trail hikes of ~5-8 miles in the Bay Area with other like-minded T1D adults, and who enjoy the benefits for glucose control that hikes can provide. Before hitting the trail, we’ll share tips on managing T1D in the great outdoors. If you’d like to join us, please register here. To just be added to our email list for future events, sign up here. Hope to see you at Hike Don’t Spike!
