About

Our Breakthrough T1D Hike Don’t Spike event for adults on August 3 will be a dive into ancient California redwoods, creekside habitats, and unique rock formations in El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space on Skyline Blvd above Woodside. This is a moderately challenging 7-mile, 1300’ elevation gain hike that descends along the creek into a quiet setting with birdsongs, redwoods, and madrones nestled in forget-me-nots and fungi.  We’ll ascend to a viewpoint with picnic tables and a memorial plaque for little-known Flight 304, a DC-6 propliner that crashed nearby in 1953.  After the break we’ll hike to the Tafoni Sandstone formation, a 30-million-year-old ocean floor remnant with uniquely weathered fenestrations, and the nearly 2,000-year-old, 14’-diameter Methuselah Tree, one of the oldest redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  Of course, along the way we’ll exchange experiences, opinions, and questions about T1D!  We’ll start at 9:30AM from the Skeggs Point parking lot.

This is the latest in a series of events designed for T1D adults and their supporters who enjoy trail hikes of ~5-8 miles in the Bay Area with other like-minded adults, and who enjoy the benefits for glucose control that hikes can provide.
