T1D Adults Hike Don’t Spike

March 23, 2025, Los Altos, CA
9:30 am

Our Breakthrough T1D Hike Don’t Spike event for adults in March will be held at the Los Trancos Open Space Preserve in the South Bay. This is a moderate 6.8 mile, 850’ elevation gain hike that starts high above Silicon Valley and includes the famous San Andreas Fault trail with its interpretive stations and main fault break from the 1906 earthquake. Features of the hike include a panoramic view of Silicon Valley and beyond, single-track trails that are covered in acorns in spots and wind through moist, mushroom-and-moss-laden woods alternating with grassy open hillsides. This is a somewhat isolated trail so fallen trees, birdsongs, and mountain lion warnings are not uncommon. March is a great time to visit this location as wildflowers are starting to emerge but before poison oak and ticks do so. Unfortunately, this is not a dog-friendly hike. We’ll meet at 9:30AM, across Page Mill Rd. from the trailhead in the Monte Bello Preserve Parking lot, which has bathroom facilities.

This is the latest in a series of events designed for T1D adults who enjoy trail hikes of ~5-8 miles in the Bay Area with other like-minded T1D adults, and who enjoy the benefits for glucose control that hikes can provide. Before hitting the trail, we’ll share tips on managing T1D in the great outdoors. If you’d like to join us, please register at the button below.
