2025 Honoree: Carla Voorhees-Toll

Carla Voorhees-Toll is a dedicated and passionate advocate for the T1D community, with over 30 years of personal experience living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Her commitment to the T1D community is deeply personal, as her father, Van, passed away from T1D complications at the age of 50. As one of seven siblings, Carla’s journey has been shaped by both the challenges of the disease and the resilience of her family.

Carla and her husband, Jason Toll, have been intimately involved with the Breakthrough T1D community throughout the years through the annual walk, gala, advocacy, and ride. She has completed over 20 Breakthrough T1D Rides and has served as a Central Florida coach for over three years. In 2025, she represented Central Florida on capitol hill advocating for the renewal of the Special Diabetes Program. She has faithfully served on the Orlando board for several years, previously served on the South Carolina Breakthrough T1D board, lending her insights and leaderships to further Breakthrough T1D’s mission. Professionally, Carla works in sales at Johnson & Johnson.

Carla’s passion lies in advancing better treatments, improving screening and prevention therapies, and ultimately finding a cure for T1D. Her dad, family, newly diagnosed T1Ds and those yet to be diagnosed, fuel her passion to continually advocate. Her personal experiences and professional endeavors make her a powerful voice in the fight against type 1 diabetes.
