Meet Clara, Age 12
Diagnosed with T1D at 8 years old, in 2020, Clara lives a very active life. She is an avid swimmer and plays both basketball and volleyball. However, T1D impacts just about everything she does. Clara shares that “swimming is much harder for me in a way that most people don’t understand. But I don’t let T1D get in the way of anything I want to do, even if it’s hard.” Clara wants you to join her at Beat the Bridge this year because she dreams of a future without T1D, where she can dive fully into her passions – without having to plan for T1D or pause for juice.
Meet Max, Age 13
Diagnosed with T1D at just 3 years old, two weeks before his twin siblings were born, Max has never known life without diabetes. “I love playing soccer and I’m excited about being a positive role model for kids with T1D – just like the T1D Warrior, Jordan Morris from the Seattle Sounders team,” says Max. This year is a special milestone for Max, as it’s his 10th year participating in Beat the Bridge. He is inviting you to join him at Beat the Bridge because a cure for T1D would change his life. He wants to play soccer and hang out with his friends without dealing with the highs and lows or thinking about T1D.
Meet Rachel, Age 17
Rachel was diagnosed with T1D at 11 years old, the summer before 6th grade. She has been dancing since she was 3 years old and was scared that T1D would hold her back. But she hasn’t let it and today as a Junior in high school, Rachel feels confident in herself and her T1D journey, and wants to share her story with others to inspire them to keep going. “Participating in Beat the Bridge and knowing that research is making progress every day gives me hope. Hope that I might have a future which does not include carb counting or wearing devices on me”, affirms Rachel. She invites you to join her because she wants you to experience the hope that she feels when she’s at Beat the Bridge seeing all the other T1D’s living their lives and still being positive.
Put on your sneakers and join the Beat the Bridge Ambassadors in creating a future without type 1 diabetes. Register your team, invite your family and friends to make your own Beat the Bridge memories here!
