2020 has been a year that looks different for everyone in many ways, and we know you’ve been waiting for details on the Breakthrough T1D One Walk Central Ohio. While we can’t walk together in the thousands this year, we’re excited to unveil a safe, socially distanced in-person event called the Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive, presented by CAS. This event is the culminating in-person event to celebrate our local families’ fitness and fundraising efforts for the Breakthrough T1D One Walk. It will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 3-6 pm at the CAS Campus, located at 2540 Olentangy River Road in Columbus. Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic it just isn’t safe to bring thousands of people together in person right now. Your local Breakthrough T1D chapter has worked hard in partnership with CAS to still provide an in-person experience to celebrate our walk families, and that’s why the Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive was created. The goal is for families to register at walk.jdrf.org/centralohio and work hard between now and Oct. 25 to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and also walk safely in their own neighborhoods, logging miles in the new app called Strava. The Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive will be our chance to gather together, from the safety of individual vehicles, to share in a magical Halloween-themed drive-through experience while celebrating the T1D community as well as the fundraising and fitness successes of our Breakthrough T1D One Walk participants.
In addition to the Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive being open and free to Breakthrough T1D One Walk registered teams, the general public can also attend for a $25 per car donation to Breakthrough T1D. Registered teams and walkers will receive an emailed code to register and receive free entry as a thank you for fundraising and walkingto end T1D. Breakthrough T1D Global Community Walk
In addition to the local Breakthrough T1D Halloween Drive event, Breakthrough T1D International is hosting the world’s largest T1D event in history, a global walk, now through November 1. Participants set the pace, place and number of miles to walk with family and friends across the world, all while raising money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. When you register for the Breakthrough T1D One Walk Central Ohio, you’ll also be automatically registered for this international event, which will over you the opportunity to track your miles walked to contribute toward the collective goal of 1.6 million miles walked globally. November 1 marks the end of the Breakthrough T1D Global Community Walk fundraising period, and teams are invited to join together for a final virtual celebration. Fundraising Incentives
Incentives haven’t gone anywhere this year! In fact, you’ll have the opportunity to get your walk t-shirt mailed directly to your door. Some incentives that are returning this year include the Mile of Hope sign, walker t-shirt, and Breakthrough T1D One Walk Prize Packet (that will be emailed approximately 6 weeks after the walk).
