Diagnosed with T1D at age seven, Makenzie has spent a lifetime learning to balance the demands of her health, her role as a mom of two, and life as a first responder wife. Her journey through pregnancy, motherhood, and managing hormonal health with T1D has shaped her passion for holistic, hormone-focused wellness.

With a background in kinesiology and nutrition, Makenzie helps women break free from restrictive habits and embrace their bodies with compassion, education, and strength. As a South Central Texas Breakthrough T1D Board Member, she’s lifting up others through advocacy and real-life insight.

Her message is clear: Balance is powerful. Your body is worthy. And you are not alone.

Dr. Mark Kipnes is a board-certified endocrinologist in San Antonio, TX, with 46 years of experience since graduating from Drexel University College of Medicine in 1979. He specializes in diabetes, metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, thyroid disease, and more. Dr. Kipnes practices at the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic, is a TrialNet affiliate for type 1 diabetes prevention, and has served as an adjunct professor for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Eduardo has been a passionate supporter of Breakthrough T1D for many years, inspired by his personal connection to the mission as the father of two children living with Type 1 diabetes. Eduardo is currently the CEO of Café Azul, bringing with him more than 25 years of global business leadership experience. He has held senior executive roles at major consumer brands including Procter & Gamble, Mary Kay, and Tupperware Mexico, where he led large-scale operations, strategic initiatives, and international teams. He has expertise in brand building, business development, and organizational leadership. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Eduardo has generously contributed his time and resources to BreakthroughT1D, supporting key fundraising efforts and helping amplify the organization’s mission. His lived experience as a T1D parent, combined with his business insight and heartfelt commitment, make him a strong advocate for families navigating this journey.
