Makenzie Funk is a health and wellness educator, certified personal trainer, and advocate for women’s hormonal health, living with type 1 diabetes since her diagnosis at age seven. As a mom of two young boys and a first responder wife, she brings a deeply personal perspective to her work. Makenzie serves on the South Central Texas Breakthrough T1D Board, where she supports the T1D community through education and advocacy.
Throughout her life, Makenzie has navigated the unique challenges of managing type 1 diabetes alongside the physical and hormonal changes of pregnancy and motherhood. Her journey has included struggles with inflammation, body image, and overtraining, which inspired her to pursue formal education in kinesiology and nutrition. This academic foundation helped her shift from restrictive health practices to a more balanced, hormone-focused approach.
Makenzie’s experience includes managing her diabetes through pregnancy, where she learned the vital importance of nutrition, hormone regulation, and self-care. Her holistic approach has led to significant improvements in her insulin needs, energy levels, and overall wellness. Passionate about empowering women facing similar health challenges, she educates and coaches on how to better understand hormonal health and its impact on autoimmune conditions like T1D.
Through her work, Makenzie aims to inspire women to embrace their bodies, prioritize their health, and find strength in balance—no matter the obstacles they face.
