A Breakthrough T1DMS series dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the most important aspect of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk – YOU! This week, we’re featuring…..

Hayden’s Hoppers

Nikki Simmons of Hayden’s Hoppers shared her One Walk experience:

How long have you had your team? – “12 Years”

Who are you walking for? “My son Hayden Simmons”

How did you pick your team’s name?  “We wanted to use Hayden’s name in the team name, and Hoppers just fit since they both start with H.”

Do you have any Walk Day traditions?  “We go to Family Night the night before, set up our tent, then get to the walk early Saturday morning to visit and greet our team members.”

What is your favorite memory from your first walk?  “Hayden going up on the stage as Junior Ambassador with Scott Steele announcing, and watching Hayden with Scott, Hayden just beaming with pride to be up on the stage. He was just barely 2 years old then. Another fun memory is a couple of years ago his baseball team came and walked with him and wore their baseball jerseys to support Hayden.  That was pretty touching!”

Thank you to Nikki, the Hayden’s Hoppers Team, and everyone who has created teams and/or shared your reason for walking!
