Bob and Judy Morgan’s journey with Type 1 diabetes began in 1993, when their son Christopher was diagnosed at just nine years old. Since that day, the Morgans have become a pillar of the Breakthrough T1D community—walking for a cure for more than 25 years, building one of the largest family teams in the 1990s, and giving their time and leadership in countless ways. Judy has shared their family’s story through the Speaker’s Bureau, Christopher has served as a Walk Ambassador, and Bob has contributed his expertise on the executive board and corporate development committee—service that now continues through his son-in-law, Tim.

The Morgan family remains deeply grateful to Breakthrough T1D for driving research and innovation that have transformed Christopher’s life and brought hope to countless others living with Type 1 diabetes.

Amy and Tim Haskell have been devoted supporters of Breakthrough T1D for more than two decades, inspired by deeply personal connections to the cause. In 1985, Tim’s uncle, Jim, lost his life to Type 1 diabetes, leaving behind a young family and an enduring reminder of the disease’s toll. Nearly forty years later, Amy’s brother, Christopher Morgan, continues his own courageous journey with T1D—but thanks to the advances driven by Breakthrough T1D’s research and advocacy, his diabetes management has moved from the days of pricking fingers and insulin shots to CGMs and close loop insulin pumps, never once been hospitalized since his diagnosis in 1993. Together with the Morgan family, the Haskells are profoundly grateful to the volunteers, staff, and benefactors whose dedication is improving lives every day—and they look forward with hope to the day when Type One becomes Type NONE.

Elizabeth and James Elder are the parents of three children: Annabelle, Blair, and Clark. Their parenthood wasn’t easy from the start with Annabelle and Blair diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Leigh Syndrome, and taking Annabelle’s life at the age of eleven in October 2021. About a year later, their “healthy” son Clark was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in November 2022.

Elizabeth and James are honored to be the Fund a Cure Family this year and are so hopeful with the belief that a cure for T1D is around the corner, thanks to all Breakthrough T1D has done to advance research and treatment options. James recently joined the Breakthrough T1D Board and looks forward to getting more involved for such a promising and personal cause.

Linda became involved with Breakthrough T1D in the fall of 2006 when her son Robert was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 9. That year, the Brown family started their walk team “I hate needles.” Linda still raises funds for the walk every year under that team name, even though she usually volunteers in the “New Family” tent. Linda joined the Board of Directors in 2009. Over the past twenty years, she’s been on the corporate development, family walk team, The Summit, gala silent auction, and outreach committees. She has chaired or co-chaired The Summit for twelve years.

In 2014, Linda became the Houston Outreach Chair and started volunteering in the Breakthrough T1D offices a few days a week. In 2020, she started coordinating remotely the outreach volunteers for the Southern Texas Chapter of Breakthrough and continued until the summer of 2024.

Linda has been married to her husband, Bob, for 38 years. Besides her son Robert she has a daughter, Ashley, and son-in-law, John Adkins, and an adorable granddaughter, Mary Kelley.
