Breakthrough T1D Walk, Druthers: What to Expect

We’re thrilled you’ve joined our Breakthrough T1D™ Walk and can’t wait to see you this Sunday, May 18th at Druthers Brewing Company. Walk day is all about celebrating our T1D champions—here is what you need to know to make the most of the day! 

DIRECTIONS & PARKING & PETS     

  • Druthers Brewing Company is located at 12 Southside Dr in Clifton Park, NY. There is parking available on location as well as anywhere within the The Shops at Village Plaza. 
  • Please note that there are no dogs allowed anywhere on the Druthers property.        

WHEN YOU ARRIVE and the PRE-WALK PARTY

  • The pre-walk party starts at 9:30am and the walk kicks off at 10:45am. Everything will be set up behind the restaurant in the outdoor space and pavilion. While we’re hopeful for good weather, we will walk rain or shine!
  • Registration is required for all walkers, including children. If you know of anyone that is planning to walk with you, please make sure they register in advance.
  • We are not collecting donations on walk day. If you have cash donations, please convert those to a personal check made payable to Breakthrough T1D. Checks can be deposited with the use of the mobile check deposit feature on your Breakthrough T1D Walk app or mailed to Breakthrough T1D, Upstate New York Chapter, PO Box 5053 in Hagerstown, MD 21741.
  • America may run on Dunkin’ but on Sunday, we walk on Dunkin’!  Visit the Dunkin’ table for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. Thank you to Dunkin’ for your generous donation.
  • If you have T1D, make sure you stop by the Breakthrough T1D table and pick up your special gift to wear during the event! Also, if this is your first time ever walking with us, make sure you ask for your sticker!   
  • Walkers who have personally raised $1,000 or more have earned V1P status! Make sure you stop by the V1P tent for a fun photo and a small gift from Breakthrough T1D.
  • Stop by Resource Row and check out the latest in T1D resources and products. Make sure you stop by our new T1D Trailblazers Board and leave a tip, triumph, or tribute message to your T1D.
  • Check out the Activities Zone and take a picture in our photobooth, get a balloon animal and some face paint or glitter. Kids are welcome to visit the Building Breakthroughs Lego table to chill out and build something cool or stop by our Sugar Scrub Station for some fun DIY sugar scrubs.
  • Teams that have raised $2,500 or more are welcome to join us in Team Village. This is a special area just for our top teams to meet at their reserved high-top table.  

 

OPENING CEREMONIES AND T1D PARADE

  • At 10:30am our opening ceremonies will start. We are thrilled to have NewsChannel 13’s Zach Richter be our emcee for this event.  
  • During the opening ceremony, if you have T1D, please gather near the restaurant porch to get ready for our T1D Parade. When it comes time, we will parade through the grounds and through the crowd to the walk archway. If you are not walking in the parade, please be mindful of the volunteers working to clear the way. There will be time after the parade for everyone to make it back to their teams before the official start to ensure all families are able to walk the route together.
  • The walk route is a little over 2 miles and is stroller and wheelchair friendly. We will be walking through the adjacent Town Center Park. There will be a water station along the route but please make sure you have some water before you start and bring a snack in case of a low blood sugar.

 

T-SHIRTS AND PRIZES

  • Earn your official Breakthrough T1D Walk participant shirt when you raise $100. Once you’ve hit this milestone, your t-shirt will be mailed directly to the address listed at registration. T-Shirts are distributed individually and mailed directly to your home on an ongoing basis. There is no t-shirt pick up on walk day. 
  • Walkers will be able to select an item from the prize catalog once they have raised $250. You have until May 30th to fundraise toward these great prizes. You will receive an email 2 weeks after the walk to select your item.  

 

AFTER THE WALK- GRAB LUNCH AT DRUTHERS

  • Following the walk, walkers and the public are encouraged to have lunch at Druthers starting at 11:30. Druthers will graciously donate 35% of your check to Breakthrough T1D when you show your server this flyer (also available at the walk). Anyone is welcome to come for lunch so feel free to take a picture of the flyer and share the flyer with friends.
