Through the generosity of the community, Breakthrough T1D Western and Central PA was nominated to receive a GBU Foundation Community Grant Award. We are pleased to announce that on January 28th, 2025, we successfully advanced past the judging round and are now a finalist for this prestigious grant. Now in its second year, the GBU Foundation’s Community Grant Awards program is dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations that make a meaningful impact on their communities.
The GBU Foundation Community Grant Awards program is an initiative of GBU Life (GBU) as part of its annual Day of Giving, held on October 23, 2024. The program was designed to provide funding for 501(c)(3) organizations that contribute to their communities in alignment with GBU’s four Community Pillars: Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving and Hometown Hero Support. Community members nominated impactful organizations, and a selection committee evaluated the nominees based on their mission and contributions to their local communities.
“Breakthrough T1D addresses needs through local community engagement and outreach services, ensuring people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) of all ages can lead healthier lives. Receiving the GBU Community Grant Award would enhance access to education, resources, and support for individuals and families affected by type 1 diabetes in Western PA. People with T1D depend on insulin to survive and live with the significant daily burden of managing their blood sugar,” said Becky Withrow, Executive Director of Breakthrough T1D Western and Central Pennsylvania Chapter. “The impact of T1D on physical, mental, and emotional health makes education and support essential. Our project offers a lifeline to those who need it most.”
The finalists, including Breakthrough T1D Western and Central PA, are now entering the voting phase. Public voting will take place from February 1, 2025, through 11:59 PM ET on February 28, 2025. Community members are encouraged to support Breakthrough T1D by voting at http://gbu.org/foundation/.
