Faye's Story

During the hot summer of 2024, Faye’s Mom picked up on some unusual behavior. She was drinking continuously, and waking up to use the bathroom throughout the night. She was right to notice this, as a quick trip to the doctor to check up on her resulted in a rush to the ER with blood sugar reading off the charts. A scary 24 hours followed, but from this point a great support network of family and friends kicked in.

Fast forward 2 years, Faye has taken to all the challenges with bravery and confidence beyond her 6 years. She affectionately refers to her insulin pump as if it’s an extension of her own body, even though she has to change her site every other day. She always presents a finger when asked for a glucose check, and lets her teachers know when any alarms start sounding on her monitors.

Aside from this – you wouldn’t know that she had a chronic condition that requires continuous monitoring. She’s energetic and engaging in all activities (including golf). However, this is due to the constant care from her parents and teachers. With the pace of medical advancements in recent times, a cure has never felt more possible. We are so pleased to be working with Breakthrough T1D towards this goal!
