A Message from Amy Himowitz:
Will’s journey with type 1 diabetes began when he was just three years old. A few days of concerning symptoms (frequent urination, extreme thirst, fatigue, stomach pain) led us to the ER on a Friday night where Will was quickly diagnosed with T1D and admitted to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Will, at age 3, after receiving his T1D diagnosis.
What started as a frightening diagnosis with many unknowns quickly became our family’s new normal. Now at age 11, Will faces the daily challenges of T1D with remarkable resilience. His insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor are lifesaving tools that help him stay healthy and active. Our family is deeply grateful for the continuous advances in diabetes care and technology made possible by Breakthrough T1D.

Will refuses to let T1D slow him down. He is a busy 5th grader who enjoys lacrosse, skiing, singing, and acting. Along the way, he’s discovered role models—athletes, actors, and leaders who also live with T1D—who show him that his dreams are not only possible, but limitless. Their stories fuel his confidence, reminding him that he can thrive in anything he chooses.
As Will’s mom and this year’s auction chair, I’m proud to help move this mission forward. By supporting Breakthrough T1D, you’re fueling the research and innovation that make technologies like Will’s pump and CGM possible—and bringing us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure. Your generosity brings hope to families like ours and empowers kids like Will to keep dreaming boldly and living fully. Thank you for being part of the path to a cure.
