The Breakthrough T1D Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter is looking for people to join the Youth Ambassador Program! Youth Ambassadors (YA’s) will help the Chapter throughout the year to help “put a face on type 1 diabetes” and help educate the community about what it’s like living with the disease, as well as why supporting Breakthrough T1D’s mission to cure type 1 diabetes (T1D) is so important. This program is open to individuals who have T1D, are between the ages of 5-18, and are willing to share their personal story.
Requirements
- Have type 1 diabetes
- Be between the ages of 5 and 18 years old (as of April 1, 2019)
Responsibilities
Walk – September 14, 2019 – 1 YA will be selected for Walk
- Form a 2019 Walk Team and set a team goal of at least $1,000
- Attend 2019 Pre-Walk speaking engagements including Corporate Recruitment Event, Progress to Type None: Kickoff Lunch, various Corporate team internal kickoffs
- Participate in and be available for ongoing media opportunities
- Attend 2019 Breakthrough T1D One Walk Milwaukee
- Attend 2019 Post-Walk speaking engagements including Breakthrough T1D One Walk Awards Ceremony and TypeOneNation Summit
Ride – Summer/Fall 2019 – 1 YA will be selected for Ride
- Be a ‘virtual rider’ and raise a minimum of $500 for the Breakthrough T1D Ride
- Note-If your family already participates in the Ride, this will be removed from responsibilities
- Attend 2019 Pre-Ride speaking engagements including Ride information sessions, Ride Kick-Off meeting and various corporate team information sessions
- Participate as the Ride YA for assigned riders who do not have a connection to T1D
- Send Rider(s) a photo and letter about yourself
- Write at least one letter of encouragement to Rider(s) throughout fundraising/training
- Send a thank you note post-Ride
- Attend various Rider fundraising events as able
- Participate in and be available for ongoing media opportunities
- Consider volunteering at the Breakthrough T1D Ride in La Crosse
- Attend 2019 Post-Ride speaking engagement including Breakthrough T1D Ride Celebration
All Other YA’s will be used throughout the year for the following opportunities:
- Write thank you notes to donors and sponsors
- Participate in at least one Outreach event
- Attend community event/third party fundraisers when applicable
- Be a face for Breakthrough T1D by visiting corporate sponsor locations to say thank you for involvement when applicable
Program runs from April 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020. Applications are due by Monday, March 25, 2019.
2019-2020 Ambassadors will be announced Friday, March 29, 2019.
