Ford Motor Company has stood with the T1D community since 1983, when Ford hosted its first Walk to Cure Diabetes at the company’s Research & Engineering Center in Dearborn.
What makes this partnership rare is that it is not run from a corporate office. It is carried by Ford employees, in plants and offices around the world, who have made T1D part of what it means to work at Ford.
- The Ford Global Action Team for Breakthrough T1D, established in 1998 as an employee-driven initiative and led by Executive Champion Edsel B. Ford II in honor of his son, Albert, who has lived with T1D for more than 25 years. The team unites Ford employees, families, friends, business partners, and the UAW.
- More than 90 fundraising teams across 40 global sites, raising more than $3 million a year for more than two decades.
- More than $85 million raised for T1D research since the Ford Global Action Team was formed, making Ford Breakthrough T1D’s leading global corporate partner.
- A National Series sponsor of the Breakthrough T1D Walk for decades, with Ford employees, families, and retirees taking part at various Walk sites nationwide.
- A Ford Motor Company–UAW Corporate Ride Team that rides each year in the Breakthrough T1D Ride events.
- One-of-a-kind giving moments, including the auction of the rights to the first Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January 2026, which raised $1.25 million with all proceeds donated to T1D research.
As Breakthrough T1D CEO Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D., put it, the employee-driven Ford Global Action Team “has set a high bar, demonstrating the tremendous impact that can be achieved when employees are empowered to give back to the community and put their company’s values into action.”
