“Kinecting” Our Community and Making a Difference!
in General
What could be more fun than competing in an XBox Kinect tournament while learning about life with type 1 diabetes (T1D)? On Saturday, July 21st , Breakthrough T1D Mentors and teens challenged one another in a series of tournament style games hosted by the Microsoft Store located in the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. Breakthrough T1D Mentors provided encouragement to teens to participate and an open forum to talk or ask questions about life with T1D. It’s amazing what our teens are capable of and we enjoyed every minute of being silly and having fun!
While the teens soaked up every minute of their three hour activity, parents gathered at Z’Tejas for a parent coffee hosted by Rachel Calendo, MS, RN, CPNP, CDE with Banner Cardon Children’s Medical Center. While conversations sparked and questions were unlimited both Rachel and adult type 1 Breakthrough T1D mentors were available to answer questions from the parents.
On behalf of the Desert Southwest Chapter we are grateful for the time and continued support of our families; because of you we are able to continue offering Outreach events! A special THANK YOU to the Microsoft Store for donating the space and equipment, to Z’Tejas for accommodating our parent coffee and to Rachel Calendo for her time and contributions to host the parent coffee.
