Tom Brobson, National Director, Research Investment Opportunities, participated in a three day trial of the artificial pancreas. The system, which looks much like a smart phone, connects wirelessly to the user’s continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and insulin pump. The data from the CGM allows for an automated response from the insulin pump, lessening the burden that comes with monitoring, for the person living with type 1 diabetes. Tom was impressed by the user-friendly device and boasts that he was able to eat a hot fudge sundae without the impending hyperglycemia.
