The Breakthrough T1D David Rumbough Award
The Breakthrough T1D David Rumbough Award, established in 1974 by actress Dina Merrill in honor of her late son, David, acknowledges an individual who has made outstanding achievements in the field of type 1 diabetes that have significantly accelerated Breakthrough T1D’s mission.

The George Eisenbarth Award for Type 1 Diabetes Prevention
The George Eisenbarth Award for Type 1 Diabetes Prevention recognizes researchers who have made great contributions to preventing T1D. Established in 2013, this award is named for esteemed diabetes researcher George S. Eisenbarth, M.D., Ph.D., who provided the foundation for predicting T1D and identifying novel approaches toward prevention and cures.

The Dr. Robert Goldstein Award
The Dr. Robert Goldstein Award was established in 2018 to honor the late Dr. Robert Goldstein, who played a key role in developing Breakthrough T1D’s Research Department and serving as chief scientific officer for Breakthrough T1D and Breakthrough T1D Canada for over two decades. Dr. Goldstein was a champion of Breakthrough T1D’s training grants program, so this award recognizes notable early career T1D researchers who show great promise for future work in the field.

(Historic) The Gerold and Kayla Grodsky Basic Research Scientist Award
The Gerold and Kayla Grodsky Basic Research Scientist Award, established in 1993 by a gift from Gerold and Kayla Grodsky, recognizes a basic research scientist who has made outstanding pioneering contributions to type 1 diabetes research. Breakthrough T1D established the award to honor the contributions of Dr. Grodsky’s diabetes research at the University of California at San Francisco over four decades. The award is a check presented annually to a Ph.D. researcher.
