“It’s hard to imagine a more tireless and effective champion for the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community than Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Fueled by the diagnosis of her granddaughter, she has fought relentlessly in Congress alongside her Senate Diabetes Caucus co-chair, Senator Susan Collins, to ensure the Federal government is doing all it can for every American with T1D. So many of our landmark advocacy achievements could not have happened without her. This includes billions in T1D research funding through the Special Diabetes Program, the regulatory framework that brought automated insulin delivery systems to market, decreases in insulin pricing, and so much more.
In 2023, she was recognized alongside Senator Collins and Representative Diana DeGette as the inaugural recipients of the Breakthrough T1D Mary Tyler Moore Award for steadfast leadership in support of the T1D community.
On behalf of Breakthrough T1D and the entire T1D community, thank you, Senator Shaheen, for being an incredible partner in our mission to cure T1D.”
