35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Natalia

in

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give

Hi, my name is Natalia. I was diagnosed with T1D the day before my 2nd birthday. We were on the way to the Georgia Aquarium to celebrate, and I wasn’t feeling well so we had to go to the ER instead. I don’t remember what life was like before I had T1D. I have always had to check my blood sugar, take insulin shots and wake up at 2am to drink juice when my blood sugar is too low. I know that one day with Breakthrough T1D’s help, my T1D will go away.

Since our first walk in 2012, we have raised over $20,000! The best part about the walk, besides the bounce houses, is that my friends and family come walk with me! I also love to help my Mama raise money for Breakthrough T1D. I have a lemonade stand in our neighborhood, and I sell ice cream to my Mama’s co-workers! My Mama also sends out emails to our family and friends asking them to donate and come walk with us each year. My favorite memory of walk is when my Daddy carries me on his shoulders! I hope you will come walk with me this year.

Like my Mama says, “T1D is a marathon not a sprint. We know there is a finish line and with your support, we can get on the podium faster and receive a medal – the CURE for T1D!”

Please consider supporting Natalia’s fundraising efforts by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
