35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Mary Morgan
in Fundraising

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
Peter Pan may say, ‘All you need is Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust’, but when you’re a Type 1 Diabetic, it is Insulin that keeps us Ticking! Every year, my team has a different theme, and this year my theme is Peter Pan! It is my 7th year walking in the Athens, and our goal is to raise $10,000.
My favorite fundraising method is Facebook. It’s easy – all you have to do is just ask! We post my story with my walk webpage link and remind our donors from previous years. They usually thank us for reminding them! We love having a big group of friends and family walk with us. My family, friends, teachers, church youth group and baby cousins all come out to the walk to support me. This year, I can’t wait to have my picture made with Penny the Pancreas from the Dawgs for Diabetes Awareness group. My friend Karyn is going to be wearing it! I also love to hula hoop, enjoy a sugar-free snow cone, and line dance with my friends and the DJ. It’s also always fun to see my endocrinologist, Dr. Muir, at the Walk. He helps at the TrialNet tent! My favorite Walk day memory is when my Grandaddy, let’s call him Frederica, drove his vintage VW Bug as the pacer car for the 2014 Athens Walk. My friends and I got to pile in and ride with him. It was so much fun! I want people to know that it’s not my fault I was diagnosed with T1D. T1D can happen to anyone. A cure for T1D means that I would be free from a great burden and normal like my friends.
