Internship Opportunity: Development and Communications Intern

Breakthrough T1D Development and Communications Intern

Description of Organization: Breakthrough T1D is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Breakthrough T1D’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Breakthrough T1D collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, policy influence and a working plan to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community. As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, Breakthrough T1D has invested nearly $2B in research over the past 45 years and is sponsoring scientific research in 17 countries worldwide.

Summary of Role: The Eastern PA Chapter of Breakthrough T1D is seeking an intern to assist with the planning and preparation of the Live and Silent auctions for the 2016 Breakthrough T1D One Promise Gala, an event that annually raises over one million dollars. The intern works directly with the Senior Development Coordinator and assists with entering data relating to donated auction items, writing creative descriptions of auction packages, writing and sending letters of acknowledgement to auction item donors, and other duties as assigned. Breakthrough T1D will, in turn, provide experience working with an international non-profit organization, business etiquette training, and references for your future endeavors.

Requirements: Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, excellent writing skills, attention to detail, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and willingness to learn.

Additional Details: This is an unpaid, part-time internship. Ideally, the intern should be able to commit to working at least 9 hours per week at the Bala Cynwyd, PA office beginning in March 2016. Breakthrough T1D can be flexible with scheduling what days/times the intern is in-office and is happy to fill out any paperwork should the intern require official documentation of their work with Breakthrough T1D. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore a non-profit career, build your resume, learn new skills, and gain valuable development and communications experience in a professional work environment.

To apply: Please send resume, cover letter, and writing sample (3 page maximum) to Lily Scott at Lscott@BreakthroughT1D.org.
